Work and family are important things for an employee. The balance of work and family (work-life balance) is a hot issue in human resource management. One effective way to manage human resources is by implementing policies that will improve the welfare of employees in particular and employees’ families in a broader scope. The policy is a Family-Friendly Policy (FFP). One of the company’s goal is to apply FFP to enable employees to balance work with family. The problems that occur in every company is different, as well as the policy implementation. The implementation of such policies can be good when it can be profitable for the company without neglecting the welfare of the employees. The complexity in the work environment encourages the Center for Public Mental Health of Faculty of Psychology of Universitas Gadjah Mada to contribute to the wider community to conduct research regarding FFP and WLB in relation to the work environment. Based on the results of phenomenology study, it was discovered that the application of FFP in Indonesia is different from the concept of FFP that have been applied in other countries, not only the nuclear family but also extended family that includes the aspects of education, health, social, psychological, and spiritual.
